Une femme Noire sillonne la nuit, en rêve, les musées du monde.
Elle part à la recherche des corps fragmentés de toutes ces femmes Noires qui peuplent la marge des tableaux depuis la Renaissance. Elle les invite à partir avec elle dans un voyage à travers le temps, sur un vaisseau qui a pour capitaine la Vénus noire. Ce court texte en prose de la poétesse américaine Robin Coste Lewis offre une relecture radicale et réjouissante de l’histoire de l’art.

En découvrant ce texte lors d’une résidence artistique à New York, la cinéaste Alice Diop y reconnaît ses propres questions, transfigurées dans cette vaste épopée poétique. Après une première lecture qu’elle réalise en 2023, dans le cadre d’une carte blanche que lui proposait le Festival d’Automne, elle s’empare pour la première fois des plateaux de théâtre et confie les mots de Robin Coste Lewis à l’artiste, performeuse et actrice genevoise Kayije Kagame.
